Non-Public / Virtual / Home School Sports Eligibility

In the spring of 2023, members of the Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas Senate passed legislation providing the opportunity for Non-Public School Students to participate in KSHSAA sponsored activities at their respective local public school..

Non-public school students are only eligible in the district (USD) where they reside.

Those students in grades 7-12 who are primarily enrolled in non-public schools may be deemed eligible for participation at their local public school upon the completion, submission, and approval of the Eligibility Application per House Substitute for Senate Bill 113.

Non-public school students seeking eligibility must complete all KSHSAA and local public-school requirements including, but not limited to:

• Completed Pre-Participation Physical exam prior to the first practice with such exam completed annually after May 1 (KSHSAA Handbook Rule 7-1-(1-7)).

• Concussion Education.

• Heat acclimatization (fall activities only).

• Parent/Guardian participation in parent/guardian team meeting.

• Submission of immunization records consistent with KSA 72-6262.

• Participation fees (if charged for all students by the public school).

• Other requirements as determined by the local public school Board of Education (if required for all students – i.e., required enrollment in a class to participate)

Eligibility Process

Step 1.) Homeschool parent/guardian is connected with Catherine and fills out the 

USD 265 Homeschool Student Information Collection Form.

Step 2.) 

Catherine confirms with Valerie whether or not "full enrollment" is needed. 

Step 3.)

  • If a student is wanting to participate in an activity or athletics, they only need "light enrollment" which includes only the information on the Google Form. Valerie will "enroll" the student in Skyward, then the next day they'll appear in ParentSquare.

  • If a student is wanting to participate in a course (such as band, math, phys. ed, etc), they'll need full enrollment. If the student previously attended USD 265 or previously received SPED services through the Cooperative, Valerie will reactivate them in Skyward. If they have never attended USD 265, Catherine will send the family the link to NSE (New Student Enrollment) for Skyward. 

Step 4.) 

  • After the student(s) have been added in Skyward, regardless of the type of participation, Catherine will connect the family with the appropriate Principal, AD & Registrar (respective to their residence) so that they can fill out any additional paperwork (KSHSAA forms, etc) and get plugged in.

This application only needs to be filled out once per year at the middle school level. At the high school, this will filled out per season.
