Academics

Student-athletes must remain in good academic standing (no F’s)  to participate on the team. Grades will be checked regularly. If you are failing, you may attend practice but will not compete until the grade has been raised to passing in a timely manner. If grades are not brought up to passing within 1-2 weeks, they may be dismissed from the team.

Athletes must be at school for at least half of the school day in order to practice or compete.

Attendance Policies

Athletes must notify their coach in advance of any absence. Because we do not see all athletes during the school day or know if a student leaves early, it is the athlete’s responsibility to communicate directly with their coach. Athletes must attend at least half of the school day in order to participate in practice or competition that day.

Excused Absences

  • Excused via parent/guardian calling into the school.

  • Out due to a school related activity.

Unexcused Absences

  • Coach is not contacted prior to practice.

  • The student is present at school but does not attend practice.

Discipline for Unexcused Absences

  1. 1st offense: Extra Conditioning.

  2. 2nd Offense: Sit out the next meet.

  3. 3rd Offense: Dismissal from the team.

Missing practice the day before a meet may affect event placement or participation.

Practice Expectations

Practice runs from 3:05 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise stated. Pick up athletes at Challenger Track for practices.
Pickup: North side parking area (EMS West lot). Pickup must be within 10–15 minutes of dismissal.

Athletes are expected to:

  • Be prepared to RUN/THROW/JUMP and be CHALLENGED.

  • Bring weather-appropriate athletic attire and water bottle daily.

  • Wear proper running shoes.

  • Be coachable, respectful, competitive, and demonstrate good sportsmanship.

Practice/Competition Behavior – 3 Strike Policy

Athletes are expected to demonstrate effort, respect, and positive behavior at all times.

Examples of inappropriate behavior:

  • Disrespect/vulgar language toward coaches, teammates, competitors.

  • Refusal to participate at practice or at meets.

  • Disruptive or unsafe behavior on bus, practices, and at meets.

Behavior Discipline:

  1. 1st Strike – Verbal warning

  2. 2nd Strike – Removal from practice activity, parent contact, and loss of meet participation depending on day of second strike (ex: pre-meet day = loss of competition).

  3. 3rd Strike – Removal from practice and possible loss of meet participation

Repeated behavior issues may result in dismissal from the team.

School Discipline

Any athlete assigned detention or suspensions will result in the following.

  1. 1st Offense – No practice and miss next meet

  2. 2nd Offense – Dismissal from team.

Athletes cannot participate in practice or games on the days they have In-School Suspension (ISS) or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS).
